WHAT ARE THE RESULTS OF OUR FUND RAISERS? Money? Of course! HOWEVER, there are more intangibles than tangibles to be gained from our fund raising activities. Intangibles, in my opinion, are much more important at this time in the life of our Association than the amount of money collected. Our fundraisers are more of a call to participate, a call to action, to support each other and to expose our community to who we are. If WCDA members choose not to participate in a garage sale, a fish fry, to volunteer for voter registration or the phone bank, then can our candidates expect our support in time, money and efforts as they “run for office”? The intangibles of support in our activities therefore are a real measure as to what our members are willing to provide in the arena of participation. The intangibles tell us how supportive we are of our Association; they speak of our willingness to lend a hand, to come together, to offer encouragement by our very presence. Our goal in the next eighteen months should be to show our potential candidates we are willing to make a supreme effort by coming together as a supportive organization and make gains in attracting a 10% increase in Democratic voters. Our garage sale netted $436. More importantly we worked together providing items for the garage sale and being involved and selling at the garage sale. Did everyone participate? No. Nevertheless, maybe next time more of us will participate to make our efforts generate an even bigger success. Our Fish Fry is scheduled for July 11th at Lucy Park, Annetta and Stephanie have already given out 500 tickets to be sold. With all of us participating, we can have a greater success with our tangibles (additional funds) and our intangibles (exposure to the community and possible new or returning members). It up to each of us. One intangible results from the garage sale is several people gave their names to be included as new members of the Association and another past member is returning. These are the intangibles we need to work harder to gain so we can meet our goal of a 10% increase in Democratic voters. “LET’S MAKE IT HAPPEN – TOGETHER!” George Senn - President Health Reform
On These groups are voluntarily coming together to make an unprecedented commitment. Over the next 10 years -- from 2010 to 2019 -- they are pledging to cut the rate of growth of national health care spending by 1.5 percentage points each year -- an amount that's equal to over $2 trillion. Two trillion dollars. The president stats none of these steps discussed can be taken by our federal government or our health care community acting alone. They'll require everyone coming together around a common purpose -- workers, executives, hospitals, nurses, doctors, drug companies, insurance companies, members of Congress. Stakeholders Letter to the President To respond to this challenge, we are developing consensus proposals to reduce the rate of increase in future health and insurance costs through changes made in all sectors of the health care system. We are committed to taking action in public-private partnership to create a more stable and sustainable health care system that will achieve billions in savings through: • Implementing proposals in all sectors of the health care system, focusing on administrative simplification, standardization, and transparency that supports effective markets; • Reducing over-use and under-use of health care by aligning quality and efficiency incentives among providers across the continuum of care so that physicians, hospitals, and other health care providers are encouraged and enabled to work together towards the highest standards of quality and efficiency; • Encouraging coordinated care, both in the public and private sectors, and adherence to evidence-based best practices and therapies that reduce hospitalization, manage chronic disease more efficiently and effectively, and implement proven clinical prevention strategies; and, • Reducing the cost of doing business by addressing cost drivers in each sector and through common sense improvements in care delivery models, health information technology, workforce deployment and development, and regulatory reforms. • Billions in savings can be achieved through a large-scale national effort of health promotion and disease prevention to reduce the prevalence of chronic disease and poor health status, which leads to unnecessary sickness and higher health costs. • Reform should include a specific focus on obesity prevention commensurate with the scale of the problem. These initiatives are crucial to transform health care in Notes
