President’s Letter July 09 SO MUCH EXCITEMENT TO CONVEY: AL FRANKEN: Minnesota Senator won his senate seat –by a mere 312 votes, out of over two million, three hundred thousand votes. Last month I wrote how, what we might consider a small amount, sometimes makes a huge difference. Look what 312 votes accomplished. FISH FRY A HUGE SUCCESS: thanks to a great effort and generosity by many people, over 180 people attended our Fish Fry. The food was excellent and our net income was $1,600+. However, the greatest assets were the number of people attending, the excitement, and so many Democrats saying how wonderful this gathering was. Thank you! WITH YOUR PATRICIPATION WE ARE “MOVING Health Care Issues BY Dr. Brian Hull, Kell Primary Care The healthcare system in American is broken. We have allowed a system to evolve that is no longer sustainable. We are now faced with the difficult task of rebuilding a system that provides quality, compassionate and affordable healthcare to all Americans. Currently we have a system that rewards corporate greed and profit taking on the backs of the ill and insured. By not insuring all Americans, those that have insurance provide the economic resource for all that do not and driving up the cost for us all. We have developed a great system of “sick care” but not for “well care”. Americans are not participating in lifestyles that are going to lead to better health and no one is leading the way. There have been meager attempts to reward patients for good health and lifestyle changes but it cost. If we are to survive the future and have a healthy and safe society then we must change how we approach health and how we provide the care that is needed. President Obama and Congress need to pass meaningful legislation and pass it now. The future must provide for ALL Americans. We need a system that provides the following: Ø Reduced long-term growth of health care cost. Ø Protect American families from economic hardship based on a catastrophic health care crisis. Ø Guarantee choice of doctors and health plans. Ø Invest in prevention and wellness. Ø Improve patient safety and clinical outcomes with a focus on quality and affordability. Ø Assure affordable coverage for all Americans Ø Maintain a portable plan that is not at risk when you change or lose your job. Ø End barriers to coverage for people with pre-existing medical conditions. This month on July 20th, we celebrated the greatest scientific achievement of modern man. The achievement of Apollo 11 and the Lunar landing should be a reminder to us all that we are the greatest nation in the world and as a people, we can do great things. Nothing is beyond our reach if we have the courage to reach and create. We CAN and MUST achieve a health care system that cares for us all and that we can once again be proud of. Thanks to all of our dedicated volunteers! Helping us Move
