What does a county chair do?

“The county chair is responsible for performing several duties in the course of the primary election process.” (County Chair Handbook for Primary-Holding Parties, Issued by the Secretary of State Elections Division, Last Revised October 2023).

The Wichita County Democratic Chair, along with the Wichita County Republican Chair and the Wichita County Election Officer cooperate together to conduct a county primary election held every two years.

Both county chairs have numerous and equal responsibilities in this process. One of the county chair’s most important responsibilities is finding volunteers to serve at polling locations as Judges, Alternate Judges and Clerks for the primary election.
The county chair is also responsible for finding volunteers to serve in the general election as Judges, Alternate Judges and Clerks.
